Miriam Margolyes o.b.e.: Demon/Various (b. 1941)
Prolific character actress and comedienne who graduated from Cambridge
during the Monty Python generation and quickly found a niche on stage, film
and television. Comedy credits include the puritanical Lady Whiteadder in
Blackadder II and the Comic Strip Presents thriller Demonella. Films range
from The Little Shop of Horrors with Steve Martin to Yentl with Barbra
Streisand. She played Flora Finching in Little Dorrit and has worked with
such directors as Martin Scorsese (An Age of Innocence), John Schlesinger
(Pacific Heights) and Baz Luhrmann (William Shakespeare’s Romeo + Juliet).
Recently she has played Professor Sprout in the Harry Potter films and Peter
Sellers’s mother, Peg, in The Life and Death of Peter Sellers. Notable
voice credits include the seductive Cadbury’s bunny, Fly the dog in Babe,
the glow worm in James and the Giant Peach, the matchmaker in Disney’s Mulan
and a charwoman chimp for P.G. Tips!
